A fantastic work of civil engineering, the Itaipu Hydroelectric Dam is enormous, capable of producing 14,000 megawatts of electric power. One of the 7 marvels of the modern world, Itaipu is impressive by its figures: reservoir of almost 8,000 meters (5 miles) in length, a height of 196 meters (643 feet), and a flow of 62,300 cubic meters per second (16,460 gallons per second) of water through 20 turbines. In a visit to the dam, one can get feel for the magnitude and scale of the plant.

| Types of visits: |
-Tourist Visit: Tour to see the external part of the power plant from two viewpoints; one from the scenic viewpoint of the wall and the other from the central viewpoint. The access is by tourist bus. You will also have the opportunity to see a documentary about the power plant. Duration: 1.5 hours. Departure times according to established schedule.
-Technical Visit: Intended for professionals (engineers, technicians, civil engineering students and faculty, mechanics, electricians, etc.) and authorities. The visitor will tour the external and internal installations of the power plant, with a maximum of 12 people per group. The visitors will have the opportunity to go right up to the shaft of a turbine. Duration: 2.5 hrs. |
