Choquequirao Trek (8 Days-7 Nights)

Choquequirao is situated in the spurs of the Salkantay mountain range, at 3035 masl surrounded by snow capped peaks of Yanama, Ampay, Choquetacarpu and Pumasillo on the right side of Apurimac river in the Santa Teresa district, province of Cusco. Choquequirao is an Inca town formed by small sites spread out in rubblework that in its adjoining constructs a complex metropolis similar to those of the other regions placed on the crest of the hill by the same name of Choquequirao.

Itinerary:

-Day 1:-Cusco - Cachora - Playa Rosalina: 4:00 am pick up from your hotel and travel to Cachora (4 hours by bus): While the group is having breakfast the crew will arrange the horses for the trek.
On this day we will walk 22 km, first flat to Chiquisca and then uphill, passing through Abra Capuliyoc, from where we have a great view of the Apurimac Canyon. Finally we descend to playa Rosalina on the banks of the Apurimac River, the main tributary of the Amazon River. Campsite at 1550 masl.
-Day 2 :- Playa Rosalina To Choquequirao Ruins : After an early breakfast we start walking uphill - through Opuntia-plantations and later cloudforest - towards Choquequirao, arriving around 3 pm. We explore the ruins after arriving. The view of the canyon is spectacular, it is also possible to see Andean Condors soaring in the mountains..Campsite at Choquequirao, 3033 masl.
-Day 3 :- Choquequirao To Maizal : On this day we walk uphill for a while up to 3299masl and then descend to Rio Blanco, 1909 masl. On the way we pass by Pinchiunuyoj ruins with inka terraces. The changes of habitats is very spectacular for seeing birds, different varieties of orquids, and coca plants at 2750 masl. From Rio Blanco we climb up to Maizal for about 3 hrs. Camp at 3000 masl.
-Day 4 :- Maizal To Yanama : From here we start walking uphill passing by the impressive Inka mines called Minas Victoria which were later used by other miners. Almost on the top we can apreciate original paved inka trails. We pass over 4154 masl and finally descend to our campsite at 3800 masl.
-Day 5 :- Yanama to Totora : After breakfast we start climbing slowly to our higher pass 4668 masl, again the view is amazing, we are sorrounded by snowcapped mountains: the Mt. Sacsarayoj and Mt. Padreyoj . Campsite at 3632masl.
-Day 6 :- Totora to Playa : On this day we descend to the Totora river. As we go down the birdlife is very interesting specially with hummingbirds, woodpeckers and many species of orchids and begonias. Campsite at 2125masl.
-Day 7 : Playa to Aguas Calientes : On this day we walk our last uphill 2810masl which takes around 3 hours; from here the view of Machu Picchu is fabulous. After a good rest we go down to the Hydroelectric plant on the Urubamba River and from here we can walk to Aguas Calientes or take the train at 4 pm. Night in a Hotel.
-Day 8 :- Machu Picchu Full Day - Cusco : After an early breakfast we go by bus to Machu Picchu and here we will have 2 hours guided tour and then you have free time to explore by your own, maybe climb Wayna Picchu. Return to Aguas Calientes to take the train back to Cusco at 4 p.m.
