The Cotahuasi Canyon ,Located 400 km. due North-west of Arequipa at the Union Province, the imposing Cotahuasi Canyon, is the deepest in the world. It is called the "Marvel Canyon", enclosing the gigantic quarry of Sipia, the Uscune and Allancay waterfalls, the hot springs, the water mirrors, an imposing sight of cultivated terraces and a privileged climate. Besides, the picturesque settlement can be seen, which maintains its ancient costumes, housing all the riches left for generations.

Itinerary

Day 01
5:00 AM Take bus from Arequipa to the village of Cotahuasi; along the way we will pass through the towns of Corire, Aplao and Chuquibamba. We will get a good view of Mt. Solimana as well (6000 meters).
Day 02
05:00 AM Arrival at Cotahuasi. Breakfast.
07:00 AM Start of the trek. We hike through Piro, known for its many fig trees . We will then walk to Cuyao and into into the Cotahuasi Canyon. We cross the first hanging bridge (30 metres long) and continue the trek to the second hanging bridge called El Puente de Sipia, for nice views of the Cotahuasi River.
11:00 AM Arrival at Sipia waterfall for lunch. Here you can admire the beauty of the canyon and the rainbow forming in mist of the waterfall. Fishing is a possibility.
13:00 PM We leave Sipia.
14:30 PM Arrival at Chaupo (2000 m) where we will set up camp. In Chaupo there are pre–Inca terraces, an Inca cemetery and hanging tombs .
Day 03
07:00 AM Breakfast .
09:00 AM We leave Chaupo heading to Belinga. During the 3-hour trek we will encounter pre-Inca ruins, cactus forests and mountain streams.
13:00 PM Near Palos Bridge there are hot springs (37 and 38 degrees) where we will rest our wearied soles and souls. Lunch, dinner and overnight.
Day 04
06:00 AM After breakfast we start the trek back to Cotahuasi.
12:00 AM Arrival at Cotahuasi .
15:00 PM We take the bus back to Arequipa.
