Up the Amazon, Marañon and Huallaga rivers with stops/visits in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve.
NOTE: This trip can go on to Tarapoto located in a low Andean valley where you can then fly on to Lima or start a car/bus trip through the Andes to visit spectacular mountain views, ancient ruins and the old culture of the northern Peruvian coast. Ask for our special 5 night Northern Peru Program.

-Day 01 Sunday
2:00 p.m. – Depart up river from Iquitos. Briefing on board by cruise director.
5:00 p.m. – Shore excursion to visit a small river town on the Amazon.
7:30 p.m. – Dinner on board. Continue up river at night. Pass the juncture of the Ucayali and Marañon rivers – this is the beginning of the Amazon River.
-Day 02 Monday
5:30 a.m. – Early morning bird watching on the upper deck. Coffee and tea available.
7:30 a.m. – Full breakfast on board. Visit the first areas of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Sail into the beautiful black-water Lake San Martin and visit a local community of natives and trade for handicrafts. In small boats continue further into the reserve. Now see a multitude of birds and Amazon wildlife in this quiet, protected area.
6:00 p.m. – Sail on up river overnight. Star gazing from the upper deck.
-Day 03 Tuesday
6:00 a.m. – Again an early morning bird watching excursion.
7:30 a.m. – Breakfast on board.
9:00 a.m. - Excursion by small boat into the protected reserve for observation of wildlife.
12:30 p.m. – Lunch on board as you continue up river.
4:00 p.m. – Afternoon excursion to explore in the jungle on foot with your guide.
7:30 p.m. – Dinner on board.
9:00 p.m. – Night excursion to hear the many sounds of the Amazon rain forest.
-Day 04 Wednesday
Now turning off the Marañon River and entering the smaller, swifter Huallaga River
7:30 a.m. – Breakfast on board.
8:30 a.m. – Shore excursion and again into the forest of this huge protected area. Your guide will point out and explain about the unique and interesting plants, trees and vines
12:30 p.m. – Lunch on board. Now the river is more narrow and shallow.
4:00 p.m. – Afternoon excursion to a small lake to observe the many varieties of birds and look for monkeys and sloths.
8:00 p.m. – Last night on board. Local music.
-Day 05 Thursday
Early morning arrival at the Amazon river port of Yurimaguas. This area is connected by road to the Andean area of Peru, the coast and the rest of the country. Passengers may stay and visit this remote port then go by car for a 3 to 4 hour trip to Tarapoto, located in a cooler Andean valley. In Tarapoto, stay at a modern hotel with swimming pool, etc. Fly on to Lima or start a journey across Northern Peru and the Andes on paved roads through seldom visited pre-Incan ruins and great mountain views. Return to Lima from the coastal town of Chiclayo.
