Fishing Tour (05 Days -04 Nights) - AE01-

The place where Muyuna Lodge is located is the most adequate for fishing, because there are ten lakes surrounding the area. These lakes have more fish than the Amazon River because of their calm current and its black color which means that has a lot of minerals. We can find the peacock bass, a fish that is very difficult to capture because it can release itself from the fishhook, the octopus, that is one of the two species of fish in the world with lungs, ornamental fish, cat fish, sardines, 33 kinds of piranhas, etc. Other species that live close to Muyuna Lodge are: the fresh water brycon, fresh water plagioscion, fresh water tiger cat fish, golden cat fish, silver hatchet, smell mouth, sting ray, wide eyed ciclod, fresh water apis, mouth–breeding water, barracuda, candiry catfish, armored cat fish, pimelodus, fresh water charax, large toothed tambaqui, hatched fish, head stander, silver dollar, neon tetra, pacu, discus, red–tailed cat fish, angel fish, balloon fish, leaf fish, glass fish, sain peter fish, snake headed fish, pen fish, flat–tailed fish, clorydora cat fish, etc. We recommend to make this trip in July, August or September. The rest of the year the Amazon River increases its level because of the snow of the mountains melts and there is too much water to have a good fishing tour.

Itinerary:

-Day 01
You will easily find our staff waiting for you in Muyuna`s counter in the Iquitos Airport. Immediately, the guide will take you to the harbor in nice buses, while you look the city of Iquitos. In the harbor, our speedboats will be waiting for you, ready to travel for three hours upriver on the Amazon. Arriving at the lodge, Muyuna`s staff will welcome you with a typical cold drink. After setting in your bungalows and having lunch, finally you will start your trip. A check list with the animals that have been previously seen will be provided. To get used to the place, you will make a short walk in the surroundings, to learn about the plants. In the afternoon, you will go to the Corrientillo lake to practice piranha fishing, while enjoying the most green sunset of your life. By night, you can hunt with your camera, Caymans ( jungle alligators ) and other night creatures from the Amazon Jungle.
-Day 02
On this day, you will have the good luck to go to one of the last virgin lakes in the world, the Lake Huito, where you can find lots of species of fish, inaccessible for the most of the local fishermen. Here it will be hard, but not impossible to get a peacock bass. The lunch this day will be outdoors, so you can have more hours to be in this lake. The best option to refresh yourself is to swim in this lake. Late in the afternoon, you will go to the Amazon River to learn how the indigenous people fish, using fishing nets, so you will leave the net there all night long. While you are in the Amazon, you will experience the most magical moment of your trip, that is to see the dolphins playing around your boat.
-Day 03
Very early in the morning before breakfast, you will make a very early bird watching excursion. This is the best hour to look for them because they begin their day feeding themselves in the trees. It is going to be easy to see parrots, macaws, toucans, egrets, hawks, ducks, etc. some of them fishing as you do. The cat fish is a fish that live deep in the river bank, but as in July, August and September the river is in the lowest level, it is going to be easy to fish them. You can see them looking for air in the top of the water. Your challenge today will be to catch a big one. Share your afternoon with friendly jungle people in San Juan of Yanayacu village. This visit is very spontaneous, sometimes the tourists play soccer with them, play music, or just walk around the village. Is possible to buy some handcrafts that they make, using seeds and vegetal ivory.
-Day 05
Use canoes or go walking to the “Pungal”, depending on the water level. This is an area that has several strangle figs, which is the favorite place of Hoatzin birds, these birds look like a prehistoric look. After lunch your grateful fishing experience will come to an end. You will sail three hours back to Iquitos and be taken to the airport
