-Day 06
Huayhuash - Lake Viconga (4407 m / 14458 ft). Hike of 5 to 6 hours, through the fourth pass, Portachuelo (4750 m / 15255 ft). Coming into view today will be the mountain peaks of Puscanturpa, Cuyoc, Millpo, and part of the Cordillera Raura. We will descend to out camp at Viconga (4300 m / 14108 ft), and take some time to bathe in the Atuscancha hot springs (4000 m / 13123 ft).
-Day 07
Lake Viconga – Guanacpatay (3900 m / 12795 ft). Today we will hike 4 to 5 hours through the fifth pass of Cuyoc (5000 m / 16404 ft), the highest pass of out trip. Descenso al campamento.
-Day 08
Guanacpatay - Huayllapa (3600 m / 11810 ft). Descending about 5 to 6 hours to the end of the Guanacpatay valley, to the village of Huayllapa, we will visit the dairy farm of Auquimarca, producers of cheese.
-Day 09
Huayllapa - Jashapampa (4700 m / 15420 ft) Diablo Mudo base camp, 5 to 6 hours. Cross the sixth pass, Punta Tapush (4900 m / 16076 ft). In clear view are the majestic peaks of Auxilio and Diablo Mudo.
-Day 10
Departure 4:30 am. Ascent to Diablo Mudo (5250 m / 17225 ft), followed by descent to Lake Jahuacocha (4100 m / 13450 ft). Today we will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the Cordillera Huayhuash, with mountains including Yerupaja, el Hirishanca, Carnicero, Siula, and Trapecio all in sight. If part of the group chooses not to ascend Diablo Mudo, they can hike to the seventh pass, Yaucha (4800 m / 15748 ft), from where both groups can then descend through the Haucrish valley where we will observe part of the Hirishanca and Yerupaja Galciers. Finally, we arrive to Lake Jahuacocha where we will set up camp.
-Day 11
Day to relax at beautiful Lake Jahuacocha. Celebrate the long trek with a typical Peruvian meal, called "la pachamanca.” You can also make short hike to Lake Solterococha and the base of the Hirishanca Glacier. |
